The Biggest Mistakes You Can Make when Hiring a Macro Coach/Joining a Macro Program
Jan 11, 2021Macro Nutrition is a quickly growing industry. Mainly because it is the most effective way to lose weight sustainably. That is, when the macro coaching, and the macro calculations themselves, and are done right.
Unfortunately, because of the quick growth and the almost guaranteed success of a Macro Nutrition coaching business, many online health and fitness coaches are running to macros as a way to build their client base without first gaining the proper understanding of the science behind macros. This results in damaged metabolisms and dissatisfied clients.
Let me be very clear, not all macro coaches or macro nutrition group coaching programs are built alike. It is extremely important to me that all the coaches who work with my clients inside the G-Transformation Academy or who pass through the doors of my NASM and AFAA-approved Macro Nutrition Coaching Program, Macro Mentorship, learn all the science behind macro nutrition and use it properly. Macros work when they’re applied properly, and I want to provide you with a list of the many mistakes coaches make and how to choose the right Macro Coach or Macro Coaching Program for you.
Mistake One: You join a 6, 8, or 12-week program, are given initial macros, and that’s it. The coach does not provide weekly check-ins with measurements, photos, or weigh-ins. The coach does not provide any macro changes based on the progress you make, and the coach provides zero feedback during the program. You lose weight for a few weeks but eventually hit a plateau and don’t know what to do next. So, you end your program and jump on a fad diet, hoping to drop weight quickly to make up for lost time.
Mistake Two: You sign up for high-ticket 1:1 coaching with a coach who really doesn’t know that much about macros. After a weeks-long plateau, the coach throws their hands up in the air and tells you that the reason you’re not losing weight is that your hormones are messed up. This *might* be true but, more likely, the reason you’re not losing is that they do not know how to properly adjust your macros based on the progress you’ve made so you’re not eating the right macros for your current physique.
Mistake Three: You purchase an online DIY program that teaches you how to calculate your own initial macros but doesn’t teach you the science behind it. You have your initial macros and that’s it. You don’t know how to adjust based on progress, you don’t know how low is too low, how long is too long, or how to reverse diet so you can eat more. You also don’t learn how to effectively break a plateau…which is something that happens to everyone.
Mistake Four: You hire a coach who uses set macro percentages (or worse, a generic online macro calculator) and doesn’t customize your macros down to the individual Protein-Fat-Carbohydrate grams based on your specific needs and goals. Just like a 1400-calorie diet doesn’t work for everyone, neither do set macro percentages.
So, what’s the solution?
- Take your time vetting your next Macro Nutrition Coach. Ensure that he/she is properly trained in macro nutrition and has coached numerous clients with various goals to success. Follow them on their social media platforms and listen to the advice they give. Ask questions and ensure they’re giving scientifically-based answers.
- Decide to only work with a Certified Macro Nutrition Coach. All of the coaches in the G-Transformation Academy are NASM and AFAA certified and are each evaluated and assisted by me, a X year Macro Nutrition Coaching Expert and Instructor.
- Choose a coach who works with people like you. While each of the coaches in our Academy knows how to help ANY client lose weight using macro nutrition, each one chooses their own niched group of clients. Some of them work with clients with 100+ pounds to lose, others choose to work with athletes and fitness competitors. Find a coach who is familiar with your body type, health needs, and goals.
