Quit Cardio, Do Weights

This one is for all my cardio queens who refuse to try strength training because they’re afraid they’ll look like a man.

 

Does this sound familiar…

  • Getting to the gym and heading straight to the elliptical or treadmill?
  • Signing up in advance for the best spot in that spin class?
  • Hitting the running path early so you can get your 6+ miles in before the sun’s too high?

 

If so, let me tell you this…if you’re doing all of this to lose a few pounds…you’re better off lifting weights!

 

Weight training has a bigger impact on fat loss than all the cardio in the world.

Weight training…

  • Lowers your risk of injury
  • Helps you appear leaner
  • Improves posture
  • Decreases abdominal fat
  • Makes you stronger
  • Improves your heart health
  • Helps manage your blood sugar levels
  • Burns calories more efficiently
  • Raises your metabolic rate

 And so much more!

 

All of this leads to increased fat loss and a longer, leaner, stronger-looking body composition.

 

All that cardio leads to the ‘skinny fat’ look that many of us try so hard to avoid. Ya know the one…where your scale weight is down, but you’ve still got that muffin top and jiggly upper arm thing going on.

 

The ONLY thing that’s going to combat the wiggle jiggles is burning the excess fat and turning most of what remains into lean muscle mass.

 

And the ONLY way to do that is to lift weights.

 

Heavy ones. The ones you think will make you look like a man but NEVER EVER will!

 

I lift HEAVY.

 

Like, my husband and I sometimes share the bar without changing much out, and I don’t look like a man.

 

My coaches and clients do it too. Not a single man-looking lady among us!

 

So, here’s my challenge to you…

Swap out 25% of your weekly cardio-based workouts for strength-focused ones for four weeks. Come back and let me know what changes you see!
