Is skipping breakfast bad for you?

Aug 17, 2023

For years, I skipped breakfast.

I figured the longer I could ‘hold out,’ the fewer calories I’d eat that day.

I mean, if I didn’t start eating ‘til noon, maybe even 1 or 2 pm, I’d have naturally saved a bunch of calories from skipping breakfast, so I’d automatically end the day in a deficit, right?

Nope! I was wrong.

And now that I’m older and work with clients who are mostly 35+, I know much better.

Here’s why you should eat breakfast every day, no matter what:

  • You’ll snack less throughout the day
  • Cortisol and blood glucose remain in check
  • You make better choices all day
  • Your body is fueled for workouts
  • You’re not playing catchup in other meals making them bigger
  • Eating a breakfast with fiber and protein keeps your appetite under control throughout the day

Eating breakfast daily when you are 35+ helps you maintain/lose weight more effectively.

Now I know eating breakfast can be a struggle. especially if you’re busy, but here are a few of my favorite high-protein, easy-to-make breakfast ideas:

  • Avocado toast with sliced hard-boiled eggs and a side of fresh berries
  • Egg white cups with your favorite low-fat cheese, veggies, and a side of turkey sausage
  • Overnight oats made with Greek yogurt, chia seeds, and blueberries
  • Protein smoothie (great when you’re traveling or on-the-go)

Many of these can be made in a few minutes or even pre-made and heated up quickly and easily. So, even on your busiest day, a healthy breakfast is always available.

Do NOT sleep on breakfast, especially if effective fat loss while maintaining balanced hormones is your goal.
